The Lieutenant Governor's Centennial Challenge

This was a great way to:

  • Celebrate our province's centenary,
  • Launch the Coolscapes Gallery,
  • Enjoy the natural beauty of Saskatchewan.
  • Express YOUR creativity.

YOUR Centennial Challenge:

We invited you to choose your favourite picture from the Coolscapes Gallery, and tell us why the picture you chose was YOUR favourite.

When we asked Dr. Lynda Haverstock, former Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, to pick her favourite photo, here is what she wrote:

"My Favourite Coolscape"

"I chose this photo of the lone tree just north of Swift Current because the picture is just prairie, the horizon, the sky, and the tree - the kind of place where I think sister moon would love to land and visit. The tree itself is a bittersweet symbol of lost innocence, but also one of constancy, resiliency, and the prairie spirit itself. This tree is still standing. It is all about fortitude."

My wish is that each of you find your favourite Courtney Milne photograph, and perhaps also a favourite place to explore in Saskatchewan's great outdoors.

Dr. Lynda Haverstock
Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan

We at Coolscapes wish Dr. Haverstock the very best as she
now returns to private life.

The Challenge!

Visitors to Coolscapes were invited to choose their favourite image and tell us, in a paragraph or poem of one hundred words or less, why it was their favourite.  We received hundred of entries.  Thank you!
